Are you a Christian leader in the arts looking for deeper dialogue about Creativity and Faith?
If so, join IAM founder, Makoto Fujimura who will lead a series of bi-weekly lunch discussions on the theme of "Creating in Love" at IAM's new Space 38|39. "Creating in Love" is a book by Mako to be published in 2008, the topic on which he has recently presented a two-part exhortation series. Please see details for these talk MP3 recordings below under "Past Events."

September 2 , 2007: "Creating into the Void" Exhortation by Mako Fujimura
This exhortation atThe Village Church in Greenwich Village was the second in the series of "Creating in Love," and focuses on Genesis 2 about Adam naming the animals. "Creating in Love" is a book by Mako to be published in 2008.
IAMers picnicked in New York City's Central Park Great Lawn for an evening of music, fireworks, and fellowship. This concert by the New York Philharmonic was our second annual summer outing for IAM!

December 7, 2006: "Beauty and Being Human" Artist Lecture by Makoto Fujimura in conjunction with "Breaking the Skin" Group Art Show curated by Samuel Kho
Co-hosted by All Things Project in Greenwich Village, Mako led a discussion about how the arts assist in bringing about the world that ought to be in "post-human" times.
September 23, 2006: Chelsea Art Gallery Tour - New Fall Exhibitions by Merrily Tour
Merrily Kerr and Cheryl Yun led IAMers on a tour of Chelsea art galleries to see the most talked about work for the new Fall`06 season. If you missed this fun event, we plan on hosting this as an annual fall outing for IAM!

IAMers picnicked in New York City's Central Park Great Lawn for an evening of music, fireworks, and fellowship. This concert by the New York Philharmonic will be an annual summer outing for IAM!
June 4, 2006: "Raising Creative Children: The Creative Mandate of Genesis 2" a class by Makoto Fujimura
This class, held at The Village Church, explored the Creative Mandate of Genesis 2 passages; the principles of creativity; and raising and keeping creative children to thrive in the complex pluralism of our day.

November 4, 2005: "Eyes Wide Open: Developing a Christian Worldview in the Arts", a Renaissance lecture led by Steve Turner
Author, poet, and pop-music journalist Steve Turner from London is the author of 2001 book, Imagine: A Vision for Christians and the Arts. Held at NYCAMS in Chelsea, Steve led a discussion on how the "Christian mind" fits into artmaking and how Christian art can have a comprehensive worldview today.
October 7, 2005: Artist Talk by Makoto Fujimura - See Mako's blogsite for a free transcript
Mako, painter and founder of International Arts Movement, discussed his inspiration from Dante's Divine Comedy for his exhibition "Water Flames". Held at the Sara Tecchia Gallery in Chelsea, Mako also reviewed the process of using Japanese materials and his post-9/11 journey. Susie Ibarra gave a stirring performance on drums.April 14, 2005: "Compassionate Conservatism ," a Renaissance lecture led by Marvin Olasky
Dr. Marvin Olasky, author of Standing for Christ in a Modern Babylon, currently teaches at Princeton University and is the Editor-in-Chief of World Magazine. Held at the American Bible Society, Olasky discussed compassionate conservatism relevant to reconciliation between the artist and the church.
February 18, 2005: "Beauty and Justice", a Renaissance lecture led by Jonathan Bradford
Since 1981, Mr. Bradford has served as the Executive Director of the Inner City Christian Federation (ICCF). ICCF is one of Michigan's leading community development corporations (CDC). Held at the historic Plymouth Church in Brooklyn Heights, Mr. Bradford focused on the need for beauty among the oppressed inner city neighborhoods, and how we can be a reconciling agent via the arts and design.
November 11-12, 2004: "Cutural Renewal" a Renaissance lecture series led by Nicholas Wolterstorff
Dr. Nicholas Wolterstorff of Yale University is the author of the book, Art in Action, which is one of the seminal books written on the subject of art and philosophy. Dr. Wolterstorff led a 2-night lecture series on cultural renewal through the arts at the American Bible Society and at Kristen Frederickson Contemporary in conjunction with Makoto Fujimura's art exhibition, "Splendor of the Medium".
November 3, 2004: "Faith and Work," a dinner lecture led by Miroslav Volf
Dr. Miraslov Volf, Director of the Yale Center for Faith and Culture, discussed perspectives on the integration of faith and work across our many and varied experiences. Jointly hosted by IAM and the Yale Center of Faith & Culture in conjunction with Makoto Fujimura's art exhibition, "Splendor of the Medium" at Kristen Frederickson Contemporary Art gallery.
